Biological Data in Highland
This site was set up to assist the process of implementing a long-term sustainable future for the dataset of biological records created initially by the late Stephen Moran at the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery in 1986, and subsequently, since 2004, managed by the Highland Biological Recording Group (HBRG).   Since 2004 mobilisation of the data to NBN Atlas has been supported by Scottish Natural Heritage (now known as NatureScot).

The database holds a large number of taxon records built up over many years.  Most of the data have been placed on NBN Atlas with full public access and CC-BY licence.  With the exception of some confidential records, these data are available to all.

For a number of reasons the current management cannot be sustained, and HBRG, in collaboration with two other recording groups in the north, Outer Hebrides Biological Recording (OHBR) and Orkney Wildlife Recording Group (OWRG), is working to safeguard our valuable data - existing and still to be recorded - for the future.
