| Dolichovespula saxonica, the Saxon Wasp, arrived in Britain in 1987 in Surrey. It was first recorded in Scotland in 2013,in Strathspey. In recent years it has been the most recorded social wasp in Highland. | Vespula germanica, the German Wasp, was present in the Moray Firth area in the 1970s, but then disappeared from most of Scotland. Its return to Highland was noted in 2018 and it became well established in the east of the area and north to Brora. | ||

Bombus hypnorum, the Tree Bumblebee, arrived in Britain in 2001 near Southampton and spread rapidly north. First recorded in Scotland in 2013, it arrived in Highland in 2019 and quickly became established as the map on the left shows. Any records of this distinctive bee from the blank areas of the latest map in particular should be reported to . All sexes and castes have a distinctive brown/black/white pattern, often with a dark spot on top of the brown thorax. Some individuals are darker, almost black with a white tail.
